FAQ
The Maxwell Regional Agricultural and Convention Center, known as The Maxwell Center, is a venue owned and operated by the County of Wayne that opened in March of 2018 and consists of two wings. The east wing is home to the offices of Wayne County Cooperative Extension, Wayne County Soil & Water Conservation, and USDA National Farm Service Agency. The west wing is flexible space consisting of multi-size classrooms, event halls, and outdoor space that is rented to the public for various events.
The Maxwell Center is located at 3114 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534. This location is at the corner of Wayne Memorial Drive and West New Hope Road. Our neighbors include Wayne Community College and Wayne UNC Health Care.
Our pricing is dependent on several things including number of attendees, how much of our flexible space you need, how you want it set up, and the date(s) you are interested in booking. We do not have a simple price list because of this, but we are happy to discuss your event needs with you and prepare a proposal just for you. You can send us an initial request for proposal in the contact form below.
The Maxwell Center is a full service venue, which means your tables, chairs and tablecloths are included with your rental cost and when you arrive for your event the room will be set and ready for you.
We have several types of tables, including round banquet, rectangular, exhibitor, classroom, high and low bistros, and rolling for caterers. We have comfortable, well-padded banquet chairs.
Your tables will come with standard length ivory or black tablecloths at no additional charge. Should you want floor length or other colors, we can accommodate you for an additional cost. We also have other optional décor such as table runners, centerpieces, chair covers, chair sashes, staging, dance floor, and specialty lighting that may be of interest to you that we can supply for a fee.
Depending on the room(s) you choose to use at our facility, we can accommodate a meeting for a few people up to 2,000 or more. Our main hall can hold up to 800-850 people at banquet round tables of 10 people depending on what else you need in the room. The same hall can hold up to 2,000 patrons in rows of theater seating. Our staff will work with you to determine which spaces you need and how many they can hold for your particular event set-up.
Every client at The Maxwell Center is assigned to one of our professional Event Managers who will help you determine the best set-up for what you want to do. Since they do this every day, they will help make sure the small details are not overlooked. A diagram will be sent to you to approve prior to the event so that everything is set-up the way you need it when you arrive.
The Maxwell Center has an Approved Caterers List listed in the main menu under Caters, from which you may select your caterer. We have caterers in all price ranges and who do all different types of food from quick drop-off box lunches to elegant sit down table service. All food at an event must come through an approved caterer. Food may NOT be carried into an event by the client or guests.
If you have a caterer you have used before, we will work with you to add that caterer to our Approved Caterers List. It is a process that takes a minimum of 21 days prior to your event – the process to be added starts with this caterer form.
Yes, we have portable televisions, built-in and portable laser projectors, oversized screens, specialty lighting, and various sound systems. Our knowledgeable staff will assist you to figure out your exact needs.
The Maxwell Center has an ABC License and we can supply you with bars and bartenders for your event at a cost. We offer beer only, beer and wine only, or full beer, wine and liquor services depending on your need. You may choose to have a hosted bar or a cash bar. All alcohol must be purchased through The Maxwell Center. Alcohol may NOT be carried into the building by a client or guest. Temporary ABC licenses for the premises are not allowed.
